The Origin of Rosemary
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a perennial herb that grows in various parts of the world, including Europe, Asia, and North America. Rosemary is a member of the mint family, and is thought to have originated in the Mediterranean region.
Rosemary as Alternative Medicine
The plant is usually dried and used as a seasoning and medicinal herb. The root, leaves, and flowers of the rosemary plant are used for medicinal purposes. . The herb is commonly used as an antidote to flatulence, as a treatment for inflammation and infection, and as a natural anti-inflammatory. Rosemary is also known to help improve cognitive function and memory. Because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, rosemary is also used as a natural remedy for cold and flu symptoms. Rosemary is generally safe to use, but like all medications, it can have side effects.
For flatulence, cognitive function and memory you can diffuse rosemary oil or place a few drops on a cotton ball and sniff. You can also make a rosemary tea for flatulence and cold and flu symptoms.
Rosemary for Hair Growth
One of the most popular uses of rosemary is for hair loss. Rosemary essential oil has been show to be as effective as the prescription hair growth drug Minoxidil. My recommendation is to start at a 1% dilution rate. Mix 1 fl. oz. of carrier oil (olive, coconut, sweet almond, jojoba) of your choice and add six drops of rosemary essential oil and mix well. Add the oil to your scalp and massage for a few minutes. This oil can be used daily.
