Home Remedy: Eczema

How many of us remember if we had a rash or anything that caused itching on our skin, being covered with pink calamine lotion? Growing up that was the go to remedy my parents went to for dry, itchy skin.

Eczema is an itchy, inflammation of the skin that is an overreaction of the immune system from some type of allergen. That allergen could be from the environment like dust or pollen or it could be triggered by soap or washing detergents, stress, extreme heat or cold or potential food allergens.

Here are some #homeremedies for #eczema:

  1. Aloe Vera - Aloe vera can relieve inflammation and itching when applied topically. Aloe Vera gel has antimicrobial (kills bacteria and fungi) and anti-inflammatory. When choosing an aloe vera gel, make sure it is 100% and do not contain alcohol or fragrances. My go to #aloeveragel is Fruit of the Earth.

  2. Avocado and Avocado Oil - Treat eczema from the inside out by adding avocados to your meals. Avocados are rich in vitamins A, D & E and can help reduce inflammation. You can also apply mashed avocados or avocado oil topically to help soothe skin.

  3. Oatmeal - Finely ground oatmeal in your bathwater can soothe itchy skin. Use 1 cup for children and 2 cups for adults and add to a warm bath. Soak for 10 minutes.
